Chilmark voters enthusiastically approved an $11 million project to build a joint firehouse and EMS building and breezed through a flurry of school spending articles and capital improvement projects at their annual town meeting Monday evening.

A long-planned new firehouse and public safety building top the agenda when Chilmark voters convene for their annual town meeting Monday. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.

The new date for town meeting will be May 24, while the annual town election — which will include override votes and a race for the recently vacated role of town moderator — will be held on May 26.

Mr. Poole, who is 90 and has held the elected post for more than 40 years, announced his decision in an email to the selectmen Monday, town administrator Tim Carroll said.
