A story in last week’s Gazette about the opening of Tilton’s Market in Vineyard Haven reported incorrectly on the location of the market, which is on Cromwell Lane. The story also missnamed Capt. Owen H. Tilton, who is the great-great-grandfather of the owners, as well as Bob Tilton, who is their father, and Tuesday, who is the village cat. The Gazette regrets the errors.

Correction

A caption in the Friday, Sept. 28 Gazette that appeared beneath a photograph of a charter fishing group aboard the Tomahawk II misidentified three people. The correct identification, left to right, is Charles Ogletree, Christine Dunn, Buddy Vanderhoop, Thomas Menino, Paul Foster and Cecily Foster.

The Gazette regrets the error.

Corrections

A photo caption accompanying a story in last Friday’s Gazette about five Island women who traveled to North Carolina to advocate civil rights misidentified several of the women. From left to right, they are Polly Woollcott Murphy; Nancy Hodgson, later known as Nancy Whiting; Peg Lillienthal; Virginia Mazer; and Nancy Smith. The story also misspelled Mrs. Mazer’s name.

Correction

A column about trophy houses that appeared on the Commentary Page in Friday’s Gazette contained a historical inaccuracy. The chateau Chenonceaux was acquired by Henri II in 1526 in payment for back taxes and was immediately turned over to Dianne de Poitiers, who would be his mistress for 23 years. The Gazette regrets the error.

A story about the Menemsha Pond sailboat races in the Friday Gazette misspelled the name of Nicholas Karnovsky. The Gazette regrets the error.
