Island boards of health reported six new coronavirus cases on Tuesday as Oak Bluffs and West Tisbury joined Edgartown in swiftly approving new construction guidelines.

Steve Bernier, the owner of Cronig’s Market and a fixture in the Island community, was due to return home to the Island Tuesday.

Edgartown became the first Island town to officially adopt tighter construction guidelines as an unrelenting surge in coronavirus cases continued Monday.

The Island boards of health reported six new cases on the Vineyard Friday and one new case in the Island public schools. There are currently 68 active cases on the Island.

A crackdown on safety regulations for the Island construction and building industry is now imminent following a heavily-attended virtual town hall Thursday.

Edgartown was listed as a high-risk community for Covid-19 spread by the state on Thursday, joining Tisbury in the red zone as new cases on the Island reached double digits for the second day in a row.
