A week that saw coronavirus numbers surge on the Island concluded with eight new cases Friday, as health officials reported a record 55 active cases currently on the Vineyard.

Tisbury has been designated a high-risk community by the state Department of Public Health after reporting 30 positive coronavirus cases in the past two weeks.

Martha's Vineyard schools reported six new cases Thursday. Superintendent Matt D'Andrea said in a letter to parents that in-person learning would continue.
