In what conservation commission leaders are calling the worst violation they have seen in decades, a West Chop homeowner has been cited for dredging a pond and filling a wetland without permission.
The property is owned by Mary Howell of Arlingon, Va., and Vineyard Haven.
Swing for the kids this Sunday, Sept. 19, at the 22nd annual Howard W. Leonard golf tournament hosted by Mink Meadows Golf Club. Registration is $100 per player with proceeds benefitting the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program of Martha’s Vineyard.
Play begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Interested players can create their own foursome or the club will play matchmaker.
Breakfast is from the Black Dog and lunch from Tea Lane Caterers.

The 12th Annual Ken Williams memorial scholarship fund golf tournament was held on Sunday, August 22 at Mink Meadows Golf Club. More than 50 golfers participated in a day of charitable golfing including three celebrity golfers: Prof. Charles Ogletree, author Roland Martin and Dr. Ewart Brown, Premier of Bermuda.
Golf Scramble
The 21st annual Howard W. Leonard golf scramble to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Martha’s Vineyard took place on Sunday, Sept. 20. The Martha’s Savings Bank and Mink Meadows Golf Club sponsored the event. Beautiful weather contributed to the fantastic spirit of the day as 36 golfers took to the Mink Meadows course following coffee and breakfast foods provided by the Black Dog Cafe.
