Golf Scramble
The 21st annual Howard W. Leonard golf scramble to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Martha’s Vineyard took place on Sunday, Sept. 20. The Martha’s Savings Bank and Mink Meadows Golf Club sponsored the event. Beautiful weather contributed to the fantastic spirit of the day as 36 golfers took to the Mink Meadows course following coffee and breakfast foods provided by the Black Dog Cafe.
Winners this year were the team of Rodney Silvia, Leon Bennett, Bob Lunbeck and Joe Krautkramer with a score of 62.12. Excruciatingly close behind was the second place team of Richard Leonard, Jack Reagan, Peter Jeffers and Robert Reagan with a score of 62.62. The third place team finished close behind as well with Cliff Jernegan, Patti Leighton, Brett Leighton and Phil Mercier with a near identical score of 62.65.
Long drive of the day was won by Karen Altieri for the ladies and Peter Jeffers for the gentlemen. Closest to the pin was won by Darrell Chiles with a distance of 21 feet. After enjoying a delicious lunch provided by Tea Lane Caterers with beverages donated by Coca Cola, prizes were given to all participants. The Mink Meadows Golf Club staff contributed greatly to the event and Chet Nowack deserves extra thanks for coordinating the day.
Big Brothers Big Sisters depends on the generosity of others and once again this outstanding community pitched in for a memorable day.
The organization needs adult mentors and program volunteers. If you think you can brighten a young person’s life, call 508-696-5497 for information.
