The Vineyard tennis teams opened the season in a decisive way Friday, with both the girls and boys teams defeating their opponents from Lowell Catholic High School 5-0.
On the courts, fields, track and on the water, the regional high school spring sports teams are getting ready for their season openers this weekend.
On Wednesday evening the high school committee voted to allow middle school and charter school students to play for the regional high school girls softball team.

Zach Utz placed third in the mile, the 4X800 relay team placed 10th and Jonathan Norton placed 18th in the 1,000 meter at the all-state meet Saturday.
With two top performances, the regional high school indoor track and field teams made their mark at the MIAA Division Five Championship meet Friday night.
At the meet, Zach Utz won the boys mile, and the Martha’s Vineyard boys 4x800 meter relay landed a first place finish. Nearly all the athletes from both the boys and girls teams reached new personal bests at the meet, assistant coach Donald Brown told the Gazette.
“I’m really happy with how it went,” he said.
