Winter sports are back in action at the high school as the Vineyard’s student athletes ramp up for basketball, hockey, indoor track, wrestling and swimming.

After missing a game-winning field goal with two seconds to go in the fourth quarter, the Vineyarders were unable to capitalize in the overtime period, losing 22-14.

The Island Cup is always a day to circle on the calendar. But this year, it’s an event to circle with a bigger, bolder marker.

Paul Steyer and Emma Squire will represent the Vineyard as individual runners in the cross country state finals, and Elleanor Mone and Reese Malowski also earned first team Eastern Mass. all-star status.

The girls soccer team’s playoff run ended Sunday afternoon when they fell to Bishop Fenwick 2-1 in Peabody.

The girls soccer team was the lone Vineyard winner on Saturday, retaining possession of the Golden Anchor by a score of 2-0. The boys soccer game lost in a penalty shootout after regular time, 4-2, and field hockey lost 0-5.
