From the track to the tennis courts, the lacrosse fields to the baseball and softball diamonds, to the ocean waters, spring sports is firing on all cylinders.

Out in front are the the Vineyard girls and boys tennis teams, who have had an untouchable start to their season.

The girls excelled in their first big test, traveling to Barnstable last week and sweeping the Red Hawks. The boys squad is yet to lose a single individual match against any of the competition they have faced so far.

Girls head coach Bill Rigali said his philosophy is “the season doesn’t really start until you take your team on the boat.” And the girls showed no signs of travel fatigue in their first match away from home.

Laina Dubin won the first singles match 6-0, 6-0, Charlotte Marshard won second singles 6-0, 6-0 and Ellie Pennington won the third 6-2, 6-3. In doubles, Leah Thomson and Zoe Treitman won the first match 6-0, 6-0 and Ella Moran and Clementine Zeender were victorious in the second 6-0, 6-1.

The boys also beat Barnstable last week after they defeated Nantucket and Monomoy on the road. Against Monomoy, they walked into tough competition in a battle of unbeatens and came away without a scratch to tell the tale.

In first singles, Zak Potter won 6-1, 6-2. In the second singles match, Caleb Dubin won 6-0, 6-2 and in third singles, Kert Kleeman was victorious 6-0, 6-2. In the first doubles match, Tommy Flynn and Kyle Levy won 6-1, 6-2, and Nate Walsh and Henry Wansiewicz wrapped up the sweep 6-0, 7-6 in second doubles.

On Wednesday both the boys and girls teams will take on Nauset with the girls traveling to the Cape to take on the Warriors while the boys will play on the Island; the action begins at 3 p.m.

The sailing team is also on a heater as of late, winning seven races in a row since the turn of the calendar. They have beaten Boston College High School 3-0 on the Island, Moses Brown in Providence 3-0, then back home against Darien 3-2, Portsmouth Abbey 3-1, Cape Cod Academy 3-1, Bishop Stang 3-1 and on the Cape against Barnstable 3-2.

Up next for the Island sailors is Saint John Paul II, who will come to the Vineyard Thursday to race in the Lagoon at the Sailing Camp in Oak Bluffs at 3 p.m.

The girls lacrosse team has won three in a row and found their offensive rhythm as of late with wins over Falmouth Academy, Sturgis West and Boston Latin. They have outscored opponents 38-20 in the wins.

Recently, on Tuesday, the girls trekked up to Boston to play the Dragons on Northeastern University’s campus. The Vineyarders played a focused, hard-nosed and disciplined game to come away with a 13-8 victory.

Charlotte Scott led MV offensively with five goals, Lizzy Chvatal, Annabelle Metell and Lily Haynes each scored twice, and Ashely Silva and Bea Welch also put points on the board in the win. Alex Royal made 12 saves in net for the Vineyarders.

Against the Lions on the Cape, three Vineyarders recorded hat tricks: John Hoff, William Hoff and Fin Callen. The other goal scorers were Will Baliunas, Griffin Buehler, Ben Kokoszka and Dylan Mone. Michael Perry made 12 saves in net.

Then, against the Sharks, Callen led the way with five goals, John Hoff scored twice, and William Hoff, Rory Lakis, Wyatt Wiggin, Mone and Kokoszka each scored as well to earn the win. Perry had seven saves in net.

On Thursday, they will square off with the Lions again, this time on the Island, starting at 3 p.m.

Last week, the baseball team split their matchups, first beating Falmouth 5-4 at home and then falling to Barnstable 3-2 on the Cape.

The win over the Clippers was a thriller, Grady McCracken hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to give MV the victory. Joe Mederios had three hits, an RBI and a run scored, and Wyatt Loughman and Eli Bryant each hit a double. On the mound, Lathrop Keene pitched three scoreless innings in relief while striking out five.

The game against the Red Hawks was a tight one but the Vineyarders came up just short, only getting one of the two runs needed to tie it in the seventh. Keene went three for four at the plate, stole two bases and scored a run in the loss. Loughman also had two hits and an RBI. In total, the Vineyarders out-hit Barnstable nine to three.

Wednesday the boys take on Nauset home at the Shark Tank, first pitch is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.

The softball team got their first win of the season Monday as they defeated the Mashpee Falcons 14-6 on the Cape. Danielle DeBettencourt smacked two doubles that scored three RBIs, and she scored two runs herself in the win. Next, the girls go back on the road to play Sturgis East on Wednesday.
