2023

While the weather outside has been frightful, the high school’s winter sports teams are off to a roaring start.

Winter on the Island is here and daylight is fleeting, but the lights are bright at the ice arena, gymnasium and YMCA pool as the Vineyard student athletes are back for another season of hockey, basketball, indoor track and swimming.

The girls soccer team lost 3-0 to fourth seeded Norwell in Sunday's second round playoff game, finishing a strong season with 12 wins, 2 ties and 6 losses.

Fifty years after being exchange students at the regional high school, Claudio Mac-Lean and Daniel Poletto came back to the Island this week to see their old host families and reminisce about helping start the high school's soccer team.

The Vineyarders won the Island Cup for the second year in a row, with a dynamic 24-21 win over the Whalers. The boys and girls soccer teams were also victorious Saturday, each winning an inaugural Golden Anchor trophy.
