Cape Cod Times Ceases Home Delivery to Islands

The Cape Cod Times will stop home delivery to subscribers on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket after Sunday, April 5, member services director Robert Sypek confirmed yesterday.

The decision will affect about 250 paying customers, about 140 on the Vineyard. The Times will reimburse payments made on subscriptions scheduled to extend beyond the cutoff.

High Drama as Vineyard Troupe Takes Stage With Original Play

The stage is set: Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School drama students will perform tomorrow in the semifinals of the statewide drama guild competition with an original play written by drama teacher Kate Murray and students Kirkland Beck and Kenny Stone. Islanders are invited to attend the contest performance of the play, called Letters, in Fall River, to see a production that already has earned the cast and crew awards.

Airport to Conduct Emergency Response Plan Test

The Martha’s Vineyard Airport in association with responders from the Island’s police, fire, emergency medical service and other service providers will be conducting an exercise of the airport’s emergency response plan between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, at the airport.

This exercise is a requirement of the Federal Aviation Administration and is conducted once every three years to assist in the emergency response preparedness.

Well, if you are superstitious, sprinkle a little salt over your left should before reading today’s column. The weather last weekend was positively delightful and springlike. The temperatures climbed into the low 60s on both days. Golfers were out practicing their swing in the Agricultural Hall field, tops were down on convertibles, T-shirts were the order of the day, and folks began cleaning up the mess in their yard from winter. People are slowly adjusting to daylight saving time.
