Even though the heavens opened up and poured soaking rain, complete with thunder and lightning, hospice angels were plentiful on a recent Monday night at Farm Neck. I would like to say thank you to every guest, volunteer and to all the businesses and artists that made the evening such a wonderful success. It truly takes a community to give the excellent care of hospice, and those who were with us under the tent know the very special connection to our work we all made that stormy night.
The Daybreak clubhouse has joined with Tisbury beautification volunteers to clean up and improve Vineyard Haven. Beginning August 13, members of the clubhouse could be seen wearing fluorescent vests, wielding poles with nails on the end and picking up trash — discarded diapers, bottles, newspapers, soda cans and discarded cigarettes.
Clubhouse members will continue to patrol Vineyard Haven, Monday through Thursday, for as long as current funds last. The Tisbury beautification group gives a modest stipend to each member for the work.

The street sweeper has been by the house, the painters have painted the trim, next will be the grass cut and then it is official, school is open. How fast the summer went.
Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week.

Today is the start of the holiday weekend. Labor Day is on Monday, marking the end of the high summer season; all municipal buildings and the post offices will be closed. It has been excellent weather-wise but all good things must come to an end, as school starts next Thursday. Many other school systems in the Commonwealth opened last week. There were several end of the season parties last weekend and a few more are planned over the holiday weekend.

Three weeks ago the Edgartown Yacht Club hosted a regatta for 12 metre boats, and our own Wally Ross was the senior judge for the event. Wally has been refereeing races at the EYC for more than 30 years. The race committee sets the course and monitors the start and finish of a race. The judges see that the rules are enforced.

Chilmark‘s summer buzz is over. Now the roads, beaches and shops are quiet and welcoming to the visitors who enjoy this time of year. The community center has closed, the Home Port will close this Sunday and the mail will no longer be delivered to the Menemsha Post Office. All signs of the approaching fall season. However, there are still many activities to keep us busy. Please make note of all the dates below.
