The Martha’s Vineyard Commission opened a public hearing Thursday on a nearly-completed house in Vineyard Haven that has become a lightning rod for neighborhood opposition.

Developer Xerxes Aghassipour has filed a lawsuit against four people, including a member of the Tisbury planning board and the board’s staff administrator, claiming they engaged in a conspiracy to discredit his reputation and violate his rights by abusing the legal process.

Tisbury’s outgoing town administrator John (Jay) Grande is facing an ethics complaint filed by a town employee who claims he was improperly working with an engineering firm that has several projects in the local permitting process.

Mary Bernadette Budginer-Cormie, along with her husband Leigh Paul Cormie, filed a lawsuit with the state Land Court earlier this month, seeking a reevaluation of the zoning’s board denial of her previous appeal on 97 Spring street. 

A controversial redevelopment in Vineyard Haven is headed to the Martha’s Vineyard Commission, which voted 10-4 Thursday night to accept 97 Spring street as a development of regional impact.

Amy Upton has been placed on administrative leave for what she claims is retaliation for speaking out against alleged improper permitting practices in the down-Island government.
