Double Visions
A two-person art exhibition, featuring the work of Wendy Weldon and James Langlois, is at the Chilmark Public Library from March 31 to April 29. An opening reception will be held at the library from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 3. Ms. Weldon’s half of the show demonstrates the progression within her process, from informal sketches and studies on paper to large-scale acrylic paintings. Her work presents an unusual energy, fueled by her thoughtful use of color.
Throughout their lives, they have been labeled with various syndromes and conditions. They experience the world in a way that is different from the bulk of society and from each other. But this Saturday, March 20, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Vineyard Haven Baptist Church parish house, they will all share one label: they are artists.
Drawing and painting teacher Janice Frame had reason to be proud of Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School senior Lonni Philips’ success last week at Featherstone Center for the Arts. Ms. Philips has, after all, been a student of Ms. Frame’s since kindergarten, when her work most likely consisted of finger paintings and play dough sculptures.

Senior Hannah Marlin’s photography portfolio has garnered national attention for the young artist, one of only 20 students nationwide to receive a merit award for photography from the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts senior portfolio program. The award came with a cash prize of $100.
Fondly known on the Vineyard as “the wire guy,” or “man of steel,” West Tisbury artist Steve Lohman has experienced national and international recognition for his gift of twisting metal into art. But when he received an e-mail in October from someone at Louis Vuitton inviting him to Asia on a commission, he thought it was a joke.
