Mostly Barns is the title of Wendy Weldon’s solo show at the Shaw Cramer Gallery opening today with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
Continuing her fascination with the shapes of barns and stone walls, she explores new inspirations of composition and color. Many of the paintings explore the relationship of two barns in various configurations.
Jewelers Design for Men
At Saturday’s Dukes County avenue arts district stroll from 4 to 7 p.m. the Men’s Jewelry Collective will be displaying a preview of a much larger group show to take place in August at Pik-Nik in Oak Bluffs. The show will feature mostly local artisans who have turned the tables on their work and interpreted it for the men’s jewelry market — including Rick Hamilton, Beth McElhinney, Paul D’Olympia and Michele Ratte.

Fifty-five summers ago, a small summer camp began in the northern woods of Vineyard Haven not far from Lake Tashmoo. Only two people staffed it then and a small number of children attended, but that first summer paved a path for many more summers to come.
The path led somewhere that is far from traditional, is never ordinary, but that shines brightly nonetheless. That path led to Jabberwocky.
Alison Shaw: Yellow
The Yellow Show is opening with a reception at the Alison Shaw Gallery during the Arts District Stroll this Saturday, July 12, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Island chef and author of Raising the Salad Bar Cathy Walthers will be there with one of her salads; Slice of Life baker Megan D’Olimpio is creating a dessert; and Craig MacCormack will be bartender for the day.
An interactive exhibit featuring five Island artists — Sandy Bernat, Eva Gallant, Jennifer McCurdy, Julia Mitchell and Heather Sussman — opens at Featherstone Center for the Arts on Sunday, July 13, with reception from 4 to 6 p.m.
All may come to observe how these five women create their art through lectures, exhibits, workshops, demonstrations and open studios featuring weaving, papermaking, clay sculpting, carving and throwing. The four-week exhibition includes a video by Richard Skidmore.
