The countdown has ended. Rods have new line. Lures have new hooks tied with perfect knots. Boats have been outfitted with new gear and fuel tanks have been filled.

"Everything the light touches is our kingdom. A king's time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. One day, Simba, the sun will set on my time here, and will rise with you as the new king."

"Always believe something wonderful is going to happen" is a quote I read somewhere recently and, although I am not certain who to attribute it to, I know it seems quite fitting for early September.

For longer than a century, Americans have set aside the first Monday in September as a day to celebrate Labor Day.

August is not my favorite month. For those of you who know me, I make every attempt to see the glass half full rather than half empty.

It began last Saturday morning with the 47th running of the Chilmark Road Race and will wrap up Sunday evening when the 162nd MV Agricultural Fair closes its doors.
