Seeker, the wooden scow hand-built on Martha’s Vineyard over more than a decade by owner Ted Box and hundreds of volunteers, sank in Lake Tashmoo earlier this month and remains mostly submerged.

On Saturday Ted Box launched The Seeker. The event stopped traffic as passers-by watched a historical event in the making.

Ted Box of Vineyard Haven hopes to launch his 70-plus-foot schooner, a scow, in June. The building of the wooden boat in full view on a vacant lot of the Boch property off Beach Road is visually arresting. The boat building project began over a year ago and is picking up pace.

Ted Box began work on The Seeker at Ernie Boch's vacant property in 2011. On Saturday, the 70-foot wooden scow was launched into Vineyard Haven harbor with the help of many volunteers, and many eyes on land witnessing the event. Fair winds and good fortune to The Seeker.
