2011

Students Recognized

The Tisbury School held its Recognition Day for the fifth through eighth grades on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. During the ceremony, all students were recognized for their individual contributions towards a positive school environment. Students were honored for the strengths they bring. The following special awards were also given:

Jeffrey T. Goodale Memorial Award to Coralee LaRue – grade 5.

Dorothy Larkosh Roberts Award to Sienna Dice – grade 6.

2009

The Tisbury School has announced its honor roll for the first quarter of the 2009-2010 academic year.

Fifth grade high honors go to Patrick Best and Ethan Mendez.

2007

Tisbury Class of 1942

Tisbury School Class of 1942 > gathered Wednesday at Farm Neck to celebrate their 65th reunion as graduating high school seniors from the school. In front from left was Kathryn Baptiste, Tina Frank Lamb, Doris Cleveland, June Cronig, Marjorie Jo Allen, Barbara Cottle and George John Rogers. In rear from left was Arthur Dickson, Stanley Cronig, Elmer Silva, George Santos and Jim Morgan. Many of the students attended the school from the first grade, with most of the male graduates proceeding to serve in World War II.

2003

A federal civil rights investigation of the Oak Bluffs and Tisbury
schools has cited both for failing to meet the instructional needs of
their growing population of Brazilian students.

The investigation was triggered by a parent complaint in November
which alleged that the schools' lack of trained teachers,
interpreters and appropriate materials was shortchanging Brazilian
students.

2001

Amy Sertl looks like a pro. She's only 10, but the strip of
measuring tape dangling from her shoulders is not just a silly prop.
Miss Sertl is part of the costuming team at the Vineyard Playhouse, and
she's got that tape now cinched around Sarah Felder's
cranium.

1929

Work was started yesterday on the new Vineyard Haven school building. T. L. Cottrell of Erie, Pa., is in charge of the work, which is under contract by the A. M. Lonburg Construction Co. of St. Louis. Mr. Cottrell has just come from Newburyport where he was in charge of work n a new post office and also a Masonic temple.
