Assistant Animal Control
Officer
The Town of Edgartown is seeking a skilled individual to assist with animal control functions. Responsibilities include enforcing state and local by-laws regarding domestic and wildlife animals; will provide information and investigate complaints and protect people and property from the nuisance of uncontrolled livestock and other animals.
Must be skilled in handling, capturing, and controlling animals in a safe and humane manner under stressful and/or emergency conditions. Performs barn inspections in accordance with state guidelines maintaining detailed and accurate records. Administrative functions include written reports and adoption paperwork. The assistant may be exposed to hazardous conditions including weather, and difficult animals. This position requires substantial interaction with the public and much physical effort; may be on call or under prolonged pressure during emergencies.
High School diploma and one year of experience working domestic and wildlife. Certification as an Animal Control Officer; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must participate in annual continuing education, complete 2 days CORE competency training within 6 months of hire and pass CORI screening. Valid Massachusetts driver’s license required.
