Sheriff’s Office seeks qualified professional to serve as Special Deputy Sheriff, per diem. Special Deputy Sheriffs perform general or special duty law enforcement work in the maintenance of law and order, in the protection of life and property, and in the prevention and suppression of crime. Functions include but are not limited to patrol, traffic control, preservation of peace, service of warrants and more. High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s Degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or related field desirable; one (1) to three (3) years experience in a law enforcement position; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer by the Massachusetts Police Training Committee (MPTC) and current certification by the Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) required. Certification in CPR and as a First Responder, possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license required. Possession of or the ability to acquire a License to Carry Firearms, training and qualification in the use of handguns required.

Must be at least 19 years of age and have no felony convictions, pass a job-related medical examination and meet the physical fitness testing requirements. Per diem variable hour schedule, pay commensurate with experience.

WASTEWATER OPERATOR

The Town of Oak Bluffs is seeking candidates for the position of Wastewater Operator at the Oak Bluffs Treatment Facility plant.

We are looking for candidates who have a mechanical aptitude to work with department tools and equipment (i.e. electrical, plumbing, machining/welding). All levels of Wastewater certification will be reviewed. Junior Operator position is available for the right candidate, with no certification requirement.

Position requires the ability to learn pumping systems operations and the principles and practices of wastewater treatment.

Minimum requirements: High school diploma, valid MA driver's license, one year's experience in plant operations or a related field preferred. Wastewater Operator License is highly desirable.

Regular shift hours are from 7:00AM to 3:00PM.

Entry level/ Grade 2 Operator starting hourly range: $30.08 - $31.92.

Grade 4 Operator's license, starting hourly range: $32.68 - $34.67.

Grade 6/7 Operator's license starting hourly range: $37.93 - $40.24.

Non-exempt, full-time, union position with a benefit package that includes health insurance, paid leave and enrollment into the County Retirement System.
