News Editor

The Vineyard Gazette, an independent, award-winning community newspaper, is seeking a news editor with excellent writing and editing skills, a passion for news and a commitment to the highest standards of journalism. This is a career opportunity for a qualified candidate who understands and embraces the joys and challenges of living year-round on an island.

You will join a small but dedicated and fun-loving team of journalists in covering news big and small. Martha's Vineyard is made up of six different towns, each with their own government. Its year-round population of 25,000 swells to well over 100,000 in the summer months.

The Vineyard Gazette publishes daily online on its award-winning website, vineyardgazette.com; the best of the week is published every Thursday in the broadsheet newspaper, which is printed onsite at our historic Edgartown office.  The Gazette is widely respected for its in-depth, fact-based journalism, and many of its alumni have gone on to work at prestigious news outlets, including the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

The news editor will have responsibility for writing stories, editing copy, filing to the website, posting on social media and helping to mentor summer interns who are brought in during the busy season.

The Gazette has a very educated audience that demands strict attention to accuracy, including in grammar, spelling and proofreading.

Year-round housing is available for the right candidate.
