Local motorcyclists gathered at the Oak Bluffs Steamship Authority for the annual Blessing of the Fleet. Mark Lovewell

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

Father Michael Nagle, pastor of Good Shepherd Parish, gave a prayer and blessing on Saturday. Local motorcyclists gathered, a small turnout compared to past years, at the parking lot in front of the Oak Bluffs Steamship Authority Wharf. For much of the time they extended greetings. It was a cool noon time gathering, following a morning of frequent showers.

As part of the observance, the bikers lined up in their motorcycles and then drove past the priest, standing near the Oak Bluffs police station. As they sped passed by, he sprinkled water on each of them.
