A sandhill crane appeared on Saturday, April 28 at the FARM Institute at Katama. Island bird experts say this is probably the fourth sandhill crane to grace the Island. The first arrived, also at Katama, on July 13, 1977. On Oct. 7, 1984, a sandhill crane appeared at Black Point in Chilmark. Another sighting in Chilmark of this splendid crane occurred in March of 2005. This week's visitor is believed to have been blown in by the recent spring storm.
