Poets Donald Nitchie, Jill Jupen and Clark Myers lead the lineup at the next, and possibly last, Outerland live poetry event of the year. Other poets, too, will have an opportunity to present their work, new or old, in an open reading segment.
The event is set for Thursday, Sept. 20, at 9 p.m. at Outerland at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport. There is no cover charge.
Mr. Nitchie will read from his new chapbook of poems, Driving Lessons, and will be on hand to autograph copies for sale at Outerland. The Chilmark poet’s Driving Lessons was recently published by Pudding House Press. Dan Waters, in the Vineyard Gazette, described the book as “compelling lamentations of lost chances, thwarted ambitions, and misspent love ... a concentrated brew of unique and hardwon observations.”
Ms. Jupen and Mr. Myers will read new work as well as old favorites. Ms. Jupen attended Warren Wilson College’s master of fine arts program. Her poems have been included in the anthologies Vineyard Poets, Martha’s Vineyard Writing and other literary journals. Her current manuscript is being considered for chapbook publication at Copper Canyon Press by the poet Hayden Carruth.
Clark Myers lives in Vineyard Haven with his wife, Lyndsay, and son Teagan. Clark Myers has had poems published in Vineyard Poets, Martha’s Vineyard Writers and The Martha’s Vineyard Times.
Gigs Bistro at Outerland will have food and drink from 6 p.m. on for those who would like to gather before the show.
