December begins tomorrow and we only have 24 days to get everything done. Even though snow has not been a big event in recent years, I am still one who associates snow with Christmas — trees all decorated, lights shining through and a sled beneath the tree. I think I just dated myself, but these are memories you do not want to forget.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated this past week. Big balloons go out to Tiffany Freitas who celebrated Nov. 26, Andrew DiMattia and James DiMattia and Malcolm Hammond who celebrated Nov. 28, and to Abigail Desquenne who celebrates today, Nov. 30.

Special anniversary wishes go out to my brother and sister in law Frank and Linda Noble who are celebrating their 44th wedding anniversary today.

I reported last week that Mary Nunes suffered a stroke and would love to hear from her friends. Send cards to her care of Cape Cod Hospital, Room 2736, CC4, Hyannis MA 02601.

Next weekend is Christmas in Edgartown and everyone is doing their best to make it a nice one. Donaroma’s starts the weekend off with their Evening of Enchantment. I know firsthand that everyone is working hard behind the scenes. There will be lots of lights, new ornaments, lots of entertainment and a few surprises.

The next day, Saturday, you can come back to the nursery and to make holiday wreaths. Downtown that day there will be a holiday parade. There will also be chowder and chili in the mini park, the stores will all be open and decorated and there will be craft sales galore. It should be a great weekend. Come and enjoy.

Jim and Mary Ellen Kresel were delighted to have their whole family together for Thanksgiving. Arriving on Wednesday night were Susan and Jonathan Kaden along with grandsons Benjamin and Ari. It was the first visit to the Island for grandparents Laurie and Bruce. Uncle Jonathan Kresel arrived in time for dinner from Boston. Thanksgiving Day brought Auntie V and Uncle Jim Daley from New Hampshire. Uncle Josh Kresel spent a lot of time with his nephews. Laurie and Bruce enjoyed walking through our wonderful town, strolling among the cottages in Oak Bluffs, going to see the Gay Head Cliffs, hiking to Big Rock and getting to ride the Chappy ferry. The weather was beautiful. They all celebrated Uncle Joshua’s birthday one month early with breakfast at the Black Dog Tavern. The weekend ended with a dinner at the Newes of America.

The MSPCA hosts Santa Photo Day and the first annual Paws to Remember tree lighting celebration tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be hot cider, refreshments and treats for the animals and photos with Santa in his sleigh for $15. Buy a bulb for $10 in memory of a special pet

The MSPCA is looking for alumni dogs to participate in this year’s Christmas in Edgartown holiday parade, and they’ll get their alumni bandana to wear for the festivities. Call the shelter at 508-627-8662 if you and your dog are interested in joining.

Donna Lowell-Bettencourt, Edgartown School librarian, and Moira Silva, a seventh and eighth grade language arts teacher at the school, recently attended a five-day conference for the National Council of Teachers of English, along with over 7,000 other teachers from across the country. The conference was held in New York city. The two plan to share their experience with other Island educators.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
