The commercial bay scalloping season opened yesterday in Aquinnah. Aquinnah is the last town on the Island to open the commercial season. Fishermen have been harvesting scallops in Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Chilmark and Tisbury.

In Tisbury, selectmen have closed the west arm in Lagoon Pond to bay scalloping, following the recommendation of shellfish constable Derek Cimeno. Effective Monday, the closure follows a line drawn from the town landing to Maciel Marine at the bottom of Skiff avenue. The purpose of the closure is to protect seed. The town shellfish committee plans to transplant additional juvenile bay scallops into the area.
