Stephen Dunham’s back and Vineyard Haven has him. Stephen returned a few weeks ago from South Dakota and is at his Mom’s, Martha’s. Soon his two kids, Stephen Jr., and Rebecca, will return from college for the holiday break. The whole gang is almost here!

Report from Iraq: it seems every time my son Chris Clark manages to call me from Iraq, he’s eating something. Last Tuesday it wasn’t Betty Burton’s beef jerky. Chris had received a package from the sixth grade at the Edgartown School. Under the supervision of their teachers, Kathy and Gail, the kids had sent cookies and several nice letters. Chris is ever so grateful and said the cookies are delicious.

Betty Burton reports the Family to Family program is a huge success. They provided 82 meals for Thanksgiving, mostly to people on fixed incomes, the elderly, and the homebound. Christmas meal distribution is today. Betty thanks the Pacheco family and Reliable Market for all their donations. The First Baptist church gets a thank-you for providing storage space. If you have any questions about this great program, call Betty at 508-693-3339. If you would like to help out, send a check to Family to Family, P.O. Box 1874, Vineyard Haven MA 02568. Islanders helping Islanders, that’s what it’s all about.

If you did not catch my friend Debbie Klein’s excellent photo of our beloved Islander passing in service from New York city to Governor’s Island, quick, check your recycle bin for the Vineyard Gazette from Friday, Nov. 30. What a stunning photo. How wonderful to know our favorite boat is not in a scrap heap somewhere. I hope this is the beginning of more of Debbie’s photographic contributions to this paper. Thanks, Deb.

Well, if you love wine — and who doesn’t? — stop at the Bunch of Grapes tonight at 7:30 p.m. for the free talk upstairs by Hungarian-Canadian author, Ferenc Mate. His new book is A Vineyard in Tuscany, a wine lover’s dream. And what Vineyarder doesn’t dream of Tuscany, any time of year?

The holiday season parties continue. The Louisa Gould Gallery on Main street, famous for art works highlighting marine scenes, has joined with the nonprofit Sail Martha’s Vineyard for an exhibit running through Dec. 23. Some of the artists whose work is being shown are Ovid Ward, Margot Datz, Traeger DiPietro, Donna Blackburn, Christopher Crofton-Atkins, Frauke Klautt, Leslie Smith, and Alan Edy. Free wrapping of everything but furniture is available, as well as gift certificates. And the party, open to all, is tomorrow, Dec. 15 from 2 to 6 p.m. Join Louisa at her Christmas tree for music, food, and libations. I’ll see you there.

Anniversary bouquets go out to Dick and Lorraine Clark on Dec. 18.

The birthday bandwagon pulls along Cheyenne Cimeno today. Tomorrow is a party for Chris Baldwin, Emma Tobin, Merry Barclae Miaini, Ellen Serusa and Tim Sylvia. Dec. 16 is shared by Jack Rice and Grainne Whelan. Dec. 17 belongs to Courtney Collins, Mary Kelley, and Charlie Ashmun. Dec. 18 is a party for Jamie Warrington and Injy Farat Lew. And on Dec. 20, Carissa Noel Doup takes the cake. Many happy returns.
