Lifeguard training again is being offered at the Mansion House Health Club in Vineyard Haven.
Mansion House is pleased to donate pool time and classroom space to support the training as certified by the Martha’s Vineyard Red Cross.
This course is designed to provide competent swimmers with the knowledge and certification necessary to become a lifeguard. Many of the Island towns’ lifeguards were trained in the Mansion House pool.
Jennifer Fragosa, Mansion House aquatics director, has taught this class for more than 13 years to dozens of qualified swimmers.
Prerequisites for the course are that students must be 15 years of age or older and successfully swim 22 lengths using the freestyle or crawl, swim underwater 45 feet and retrieve a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the pool and swim back.
The pretest and registration is Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. The course, which includes 40 hours of class time, starts March 7. The cost to students is $350 and includes the Red Cross fees.
More information is available by calling Ms. Fragosa at 508-693-2200, extension 123, or Susan Goldstein at 508-693-2200, extension 102.
