The Easter morning sunrise service will be conducted by Rev. Roger H. Spinney at 6 a.m. Sunday, March 23 at Community Baptist Church with organist Kathryn B. Stewart. Special music will be performed during the service. All are welcome to attend. Thank you to our friends at Chilmark Chocolates for their generous donation of jelly beans for the Easter service.

Reverend Spinney has been busy this week with his culinary skills by hosting a traditional Irish dinner held at the parish house in Vineyard Haven on Saturday and with Maundy Thursday dinner held on Thursday evening.

On Easter Sunday, Elise Lebovit at the Duck Inn will be the hostess for the annual egg hunt from 1 to 5 p.m. All children are welcome to attend this fun-filled afternoon.

The Aquinnah Public Library is flourishing with great programs, new books and compact discs, the latest magazines. It is a popular gathering place in Aquinnah for all ages. Library hours are Tuesday and Thursday 2 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. of each week.

The Martha’s Vineyard Library Association will be sponsoring the Fabulists on Saturday, March 22 at the Vineyard Playhouse at 11 a.m. Admission is $5. The play is called “The Call of the Cuckoo” and is a lively folktale from Afghanistan.

The library will be holding the second session of beading with Lindsey Scott. It will begin on Tuesday, March 25 from 4 to 6 p.m. and will continue for the next four Tuesday afternoons up through April 15. Classes are free of charge but attendees need to bring their own tools and supplies. You may call the library for further information and to sign up for the classes 508-645-2314. The classes were very popular during January and February.

On March 27, yours truly will be holding the final genealogy class of the winter at the Aquinnah Public Library from 2 to 4 p.m. If anyone would like to continue researching their ancestors, please inform library director Jennifer Christy or her assistants Michelle or Natalie.

Thomas Murphy was at his Aquinnah home recently from his law practice in Springfield. Christine is still teaching at Boston College. Their son Tim is working at Fessenden School and their daughter Katie is working in early childhood intervention in Salt Lake City. Tom is already working on plans for the annual Old South Road Fourth of July parade. So everyone must start from now to prepare their hats and wardrobes for the parade as well as plan their parade vehicle decorations. See you there.

Tiffany Smalley was home over the weekend from her freshman year studies at Harvard University.

Carrie Anne Vanderhoop has returned to her home in Masset, British Columbia, after a brief visit with family and friends on the Vineyard and a trip to London with her family.

Belated happy birthday wishes to Natalie Francis as she celebrated on March 16.

Happy birthday wishes this week to Annette Anthony who has just returned from Costa Rica. Joseph Andrews will observe his special day on Saturday. Paul Galbraith will celebrate on March 23 and shares the day with Nanauwe Ama Vanderhoop who will be eight years old, and with Dwight Kaeka.

Lauri Bradway will party on March 24 and shares the day with Anna Monteiro and Aretha Witham. Sue Mitchell will celebrate on March 25 and it is great to see her back on the Vineyard after spending the past few years in Florida. James Benoit will celebrate his birthday March 25. He shares the day with Emma Mayhew and with Eloise Moreis Boales.

Mason Jeffers will be 10 years old and will party on March 26. He shares the day with Anita Vanderhoop Keegan and Mike Marshall. Brenda Smith Hayden will observe a major milestone on March 27 and shares the day with Jeffie Butler and Lynn Silva. Michael R. Hebert will observe his special day on March 28.
