A Vineyard Haven woman was arrested and charged with felony attempted murder Saturday night after she allegedly attacked and violently choked the girlfriend of her infant’s father in a fit of jealousy.

Silvana Dias deCampos, 31, was arrested by Tisbury police after she reportedly went to the home of a 20-year-old woman on Lagoon Pond Road and attacked her.

Ms. deCampos initially was held on a $7,500 cash bail and was arraigned in Edgartown district court on Monday.

Tisbury police chief John Cashin said Immigration and Customs Enforcement has filed an immigration detainer on Ms. deCampos due to the violent nature of the crime.

Police said Ms. deCampos, of 110 Clover Hill Road, went to the home of the victim around 7:15 p.m. and was let inside by a roommate. The chief said Ms. deCampos went upstairs to the victim, who was working on a computer at the time, and physically attacked her.

The victim then composed herself and called her cousin in West Tisbury for help, who then called 911.

Tisbury officer Michael Gately and Sgt. Robert Fiske then met the victim in front of her Lagoon Pond Road home. She told them Ms. deCampos was previously romantically involved with her boyfriend, who also is the father of Ms. deCampos’s baby. The victim told police that Ms. deCampos had been threatening her for months, Chief Cashin said.

Police then tracked down Ms. deCampos at a Bernard Circle residence, where she apparently was picking up her infant from her babysitter. Officer Gately and Sergeant Fiske there placed her under arrest for attempted murder.

The infant subsequently was taken into the care of Ms. DeCampos’s babysitter.
