Saturday, August 30: Brief rain showers overnight. The morning is overcast, threatening. Light drizzle. A maritime weather day. A breeze off the water smells of the ocean. Damp wildflowers off Planting Field Way are bright on a gray day. A dreary afternoon. Drizzle does not stop a few from taking a walk along Circuit avenue in Oak Bluffs. Light drizzle in Vineyard Haven harbor. Quiet, still evening.
Sunday, August 31: Sunny morning. Many bittersweet leaves, colored yellow, hang on a vine near Lake Tashmoo. Waters are calm in the lake. Mushrooms decorate a backyard path in Tisbury. At dusk Lagoon Pond is a mirror of the twilight sky and include the colors of pale pink, blue and violet.
Monday, Sept. 1: Sunny Labor Day. Traffic at Five Corners is bustling, a horn or two sounding. Most cars head for the SSA parking lot and then the boat. Little traffic at South Beach in Edgartown. Perfect bathing day. Plenty of parking spaces.
Tuesday, Sept. 2: Partly sunny in the morning. A huge pumpkin has the name of a child written across it. Nearby, sunflowers are blooming in a long line at Morning Glory Farm’s field. Tall grass waves in the shifting breeze can be seen off at the edge of the field. Fishermen take over the Big Bridge in the afternoon. No swimmers jump from the bridge into the channel. Waters churn under the bridge. Summer sunshine. Cool evening. Temperature drops to under 60 degrees. Jupiter hangs low over the open ocean when viewed from South Beach.
Wednesday, Sept. 3: Hazy skies over Vineyard Haven’s outer harbor. Ferry Island Home and the fast ferry cross paths in the morning. Noon is warm. Pedestrian traffic in Vineyard Haven is bustling at noon. The regional high school field is busy with field hockey stars under a low sun. Dappled sunlight in the John Correllus State Forest. Bicyclists speed under the tall pines.
Thursday, Sept. 4: Mostly cloudy morning. Periods of sunshine. Humid. Temperature in the mid-70s by midmorning.
