Mr. and Mrs. Rupert H. Robinson of Oak Bluffs celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 11, 2008. The former Eileen Walker Sibley of Edgartown and Rupert Henry Robinson of Worcester were married in the Edgartown Federated Church with a reception at the Harbor View Hotel.
An open house at their home on Sept. 13 was hosted by their four children; R. Dana Robinson of Manchester, Tenn., Jennifer Robinson of U.S. Virgin Islands, Betsy Wagoner of Hopkinton, Mass., and Anne Bena of Clifton Park, N.Y.
Joining in the festivities and helping with the party were Dana’s wife Eunice, Anne’s husband Tom, granddaughters Emily Bena of Buffalo, N.Y., Molly Wagoner of Cambridge and Sarah Wagoner of Hopkinton. Sending their love but unable to attend were Jenn’s husband Ashow, grandsons Justin and Kyle Wagoner and Trevor Bena, granddaughter Naomi and husband Wes Adcock, granddaughter Bethany and husband Daniel Gilley and great-grandson Caden Gilley.
Sharing the day again with the Robinsons were maid of honor Eck Wolff of Edgartown, flower girl Marianne Longwell of Worcester (Rupert’s niece), flower girl Kathleen Jackson of Bethel, Me. (formerly “Kappy” Lane of Edgartown), and Rupert’s cousin Sally (Faunce) and husband Al Saniuta. Eileen and Rupert meet at the Saniuta’s wedding in Edgartown 62 years ago. Joyce West Erdman, who caught the bouquet, stopped in with her husband, Charlie, as well as childhood pal Catherine Prada Griffith and classmate Rich Mavro.
Family, friends and neighbors from on and off Island enjoyed an afternoon of visiting and reminiscing. There were story boards of wedding and family photographs for perusing, of a DVD, made by granddaughter Emily, to watch of photographs set to sentimental songs. Part way through the party, a toast was given by their children on the meaning of marriage, before Eileen and Rupert once more playfully fed each other cake.
