The Aquinnah special town meeting scheduled for Feb. 3 has been postponed until a later date. The selectmen are anticipating a meeting to be scheduled in late March or early April. We’ll keep you informed.

Thomas Murphy and his wife, Christine, were in Aquinnah to attend the memorial service for Paul Benedict who happened to be a dear member of their family. Their son Tim is still at the Fessenden School and their daughter Katy is working in Salt Lake City. Tom divides his time between Springfield and Aquinnah with his law offices. Christine is still a professor at Boston College.

Congratulations to Jay Theise who has recently opened a law office on Locust Lane in Aquinnah. He will continue to also maintain his law office in Boston but it will be nice to have one so accessible in town.

Jesse Wiener will be presenting his New York debut as a composer/lyricist with Our Guy. This is his first collaboration with playwright Matt Williams. “It is 2009 and everything is new. In the wake of a new world, the funny, young and restless characters of Our Guy find themselves caught in the struggle between love and self-respect, the personal and the political and change versus the gaping hole of fear.” Music and lyrics by Jesse Wiener, book and lyrics by Matt Williams, directed by Michael Tartaglia, music directed by Jesse Wiener. Our Guy will be at Pace University’s Schaeberle Studio in New York on Feb. 5, 6, 7 at 8 p.m. For tickets, please go to OURGUYMUSICAL@gmail.com. Jesse, son of Jerry Wiener and Carolyn Feltz, graduated from Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School in 2004 and Harvard University in 2008 from which he went directly to Manhattan to advance his career.

Aquinnah Public Library has been bustling with activity throughout the winter in the larger quarters at the old town hall. Circulation of materials has increased significantly and the programs are very well-attended. On Tuesday evenings, Amanda Hutchinson assists with your knitting projects or other half-stitched projects. Board games are always available for one and all to enjoy. On Thursday evenings, the second session of quilting with Lindsey takes place from 4:30 to 6:30. Dan Sauer, chef at the Outermost Inn, will demonstrate the making of winter soups on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.; there are still a few spaces left for Dan’s class. Please call 508-645-2314 to sign up. On Saturday evening, Jan. 31 will be the first potluck movie night at 5:30 p.m. The movie will begin at 6 p.m. with popcorn available.

Helping the Coddings is now on the Internet on Facebook with nearly 300 participants. Lewis and Patricia Codding lost their Tisbury home of 30 years in a fire a week ago. Patty worked in the adjoining office for many years while we worked at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. Family and friends are now creating a unique Vineyard Gift Basket to be auctioned off in case you have a special item to donate to the basket. A tentative fundraiser will be held on Feb. 8 at 6 p.m.

Condolences to the family and friends of Robert Carlson who passed away this week. Bob and his wife Fay (Norton) formerly resided on Lighthouse Road in what is still referred to as the Carlson home at the peak of the hill.

Condolences to the family and friends of Terry Hydeman who passed away at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on Tuesday. Terry, daughter of the late Albert and Betty Hydeman, was a summertime neighbor when we were much younger and shared the beach at Menemsha Pond where our homes were just a stone’s throw away.

Condolences to the family and friends of Stan Richards who passed away this week. Stan and his wife, Nancy, enjoyed their Sunday morning breakfasts with friends every week rain or shine at the Cliffs for a number of years. Stan was a great historian of Vineyard lore and treasured his longtime friendship with many fellow students from what was once Gay Head.

While you are in Menemsha over the next few weeks, please stop by Menemsha Texaco and participate in the lively discussion regarding a photograph which allegedly was taken in Menemsha in 1909. While the photograph is one in a numbered series, signed by the photographer, there are many doubts raised about the actual location of the photo. The theories have been rather interesting to say the least.
