Another week of winter has passed leaving Chilmark much as she was and still is; bored with all the wet and wind and still happy to have sunshine every now and then. The weather this week was definitely not worth talking about!

Our winter amusements and entertainments continue with the Tuesday night suppers at church at 5 p.m. and the Friday night movies at the Library at 7 p.m. The library will offer one more session of French Cooking Lessons with chef Jean-Marc Dupon of Le Grenier. On Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. he will show us how to make demi-glace sauces. As always, the public is welcome, free of charge.

Donald Poole is sporting the first tan I have spotted this winter as he is just back from a week visiting friends in West Palm Beach.

The students of the Chilmark School are having their annual art show in the meeting room of the library for the month of February. The varied talents of the students always make it a remarkable show.

Todd Christy of Chilmark is the new administrative assistant at town hall. We all wish him good luck with his new duties.

Andy Chase and his band, Brookville, will be touring in February and collecting some sky miles, too, by the sound of their schedule. On Feb. 2 they will be in New York at the Rockwood Music Hall; on Feb. 4 they will be in Washington, D.C. at the Black Cat Backstage; on Feb. 6 they will be back in New York at Arlene’s Grocery; on Feb. 13 they will be in West Palm Beach at the Respectable Street with Postmarks and on Feb. 14 they will be in Orlando at the Social with Postmarks. Check them out if your February vacations take you to any of those locations. Andy is the son of Hank and Carol Goldberg of Chilmark.

We send condolences to the family and many friends of Stanton Richards of West Tisbury who died last week. He had many friends in Chilmark as well as across the Island and we will all miss him and his wonderful memories of an earlier time on the Vineyard.

Andy and Susan Goldman are back in Chilmark after a January vacation at Disney World with three of their four grandchildren. A good time was had by all!

Don’t forget that the town nurse will be in town the first Thursday of the month and you can have your blood pressure checked at the blood pressure clinic from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at town hall. No appointments are necessary. She will also be in town on the third Wednesday of the month from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and if you would like to make an appointment for that time, please call her at 508-693-6184, extension 7132.

The Thursday evening stitching group is still meeting at the library, working on those fishermen’s sweaters.

The Rev. Arlene Bodge, will be the guest speaker for the Chilmark Church and will conduct services there on Sunday, Feb. 1 at 9 a.m. Arlene served the church for many years and is well known and loved by many in town.
