I cannot believe how cold it is outside right now, and they are talking about 50-degree weather this weekend. Down south, word has it that it has been down in the 40-degree range.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated recently. Big balloons went out to Ryan Gosson on Jan. 19, Kylie Fauteux and Jared Rivard Jan. 24, Alec and Quinn Cobban Jan. 25, Samantha Patnaude Jan. 28, Mercer Kelly Jan. 30, and to Jayden Egarr-Harris who celebrated Jan. 31.

Special wishes go to Heidi Boyd who celebrated her day Feb. 3, and Yvette Turner Feb. 4.

I received a call asking me to wish Jean Bishop a very happy birthday on Jan. 29. They said it was a special birthday, so extra balloons go out to Jean.

Happy anniversary to Jan and Floyd Norton who celebrated their 58th anniversary on Jan. 27. Their daughter and son in law Debbie and Bill are here from Essex Junction, Vermont, to help celebrate. Congratulations and here is to many more years together.

Ardis (Mimi) Fitzpatrick received one of the best Christmas presents a grandmother could ask for: time with her granddaughter and two of her great-grandchildren. Lindsey Mercier and her daughters, Keira and Ruby, took Mimi to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.

They were able to go down elevators to tunnels that allowed them to go behind the falls and get a closer look. They went on the Sky Wheel, a giant Ferris wheel that stands 175 feet tall and has a full view of the falls. They also went to the Sky Lon, a tall building by the falls with a revolving restaurant on top which the girls and Mimi loved — the elevator went up outside the building. Then they enjoyed a Las Vegas-style show with dancing girls, a magician, tigers and baby lions. Keira had her picture taken with the lion, Boomer. It was a great trip for all and one they won’t soon forget.

They were one of many people we saw on the boat returning from the Martin Luther King Jr. long holiday weekend. From the talk around us everyone had a great time wherever they were.

I know it has been three weeks since the inauguration, but I was among those who were glued to the television on that day. It truly was history and it was nice to see so many people that shared the day without incident.

I wrote in this column a few weeks ago that my nieces got me on to Facebook. Well, I cannot tell you how addictive it is. I have talked to friends I have not seen or talked to in a long time and chatted with relatives online — it has been a lot of fun.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning
