West Tisbury History Club
The West Tisbury History Club has won an award for a group documentary in the junior division submitted to the Massachusetts History District Competition held March 7 at Brockton High School. Their entry, Looking Back At The Vineyard Five, dealt with five Vineyard women who, in 1963, traveled to North Carolina to register African American voters. The West Tisbury History Club consists of facilitator Donna Bishop and eighth grade students Maddie Webster, Lindsay Tocik, Katie Smith, Raine Monast and Olivia de Geofroy. They will compete in the state finals on April 4, at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. Students who are successful at the state level will represent Massachusetts at the National History Day Finals, held June 14 to 18 at the University of Maryland.
