Two Island men accused of attacking and robbing the elderly ticket taker of the Capawock Theatre in Vineyard Haven last September pleaded guilty this week in Dukes County Superior Court to reduced charges as part of a plea bargain agreement with prosecutors.

Michael Ellis, 20, of Edgartown and Brett Geddis, 18, of Vineyard Haven, each pleaded guilty to a charge of larceny of a person over the age of 60 and assault and battery. Cape and Islands assistant district attorney Laura Marshard asked the Hon. Cornelius J. Moriarty to impose the maximum sentence of five years. Both defendants have a criminal history on the Island.

Sentencing is set for April 30.

Mr. Ellis and Mr. Geddis attacked the Capawock’s 79-year-old ticker taker, George Buckley, at the night deposit box at the Martha’s Vineyard Savings Bank. The two men allegedly pushed Mr. Buckley to the ground and then ran off with the money. He was not harmed in the attack.

The two suspects were initially indicted on charges of assault and battery and unarmed robbery of a person over 60, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. The plea agreement with prosecutors was worked out this week.

Mr. Ellis and Mr. Geddis have been held in the Edgartown house of corrections since their arrest in October.
