Would you believe, more than three days in a row of sunshine? The lilacs are in full bloom, the shad are bursting with buds, beach plum bushes are also blooming, and mayflowers are found along ancient paths. Spring has perhaps finally arrived.

Theresa Manning and Jamie Vanderhoop, coordinators for the Martha’s Vineyard Youth Task Force, will be sponsoring a Chat and Chowder Dinner from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, at the West Tisbury School for the West Tisbury and charter schools. Any parents of seventh and eighth grade students from Edgartown, Oak Bluffs or Tisbury schools who missed their respective sessions over the past week will still have an opportunity to attend on Tuesday evening.
In February 2009, all Martha’s Vineyard students in grades 7 to 12 took a survey that asked questions concerning risky behavior and substance abuse. The Youth Task Force has the results of this survey and would like to share them with the parents and/or guardians of the students. It is a free evening of delicious food, fabulous door prizes, and a presentation along with fellow parents. As an added bonus, each location will have a Family Fun Pack valued at over $200, filled with gift certificates for Giordano’s, Dairy Queen, Island Cove Mini Golf, Entertainment Cinemas and more — awarded to one very lucky attendee. If your child’s school has at least 25 per cent parental participation at the dinner, a $300 prize of choice will be awarded to the school. For further information, please call Theresa or Jamie at 508-696-5304.
Lisa Bibko-Vanderhoop will have a show at the Sovereign Bank of Martha’s Vineyard at Beetlebung Corner over the next week. Her show opens today with her new photographs, greeting cards and art. Please stop in over the next week to view Lisa’s latest creations.
