The African Artists’ Community Development Project and the Chikumbuso Widows’ and Orphans’ Project are collaborating to produce a concert this July in order to raise awareness and funds for Zambian children, widows, and artists. Please come to the Vineyard Haven Library Tuesday night, July 7 at 7 p.m. to learn about these two organizations. Help us wage peace.
The Chikumbuso Widows’ and Orphans’ Project teaches widows to crochet beautiful handbags from plastic shopping bags, which are sold in the States enabling women who were living on the streets with their children to afford housing and food. The project has grown also to provide a school for the children and loans for other women to start other small businesses.
African Artists’ Community Development Project is a Vineyard-based nonprofit that raises money for Zambian children’s aid organizations: the Upeme Hope orphanage, and the Mama Bakhita Center for Disabled Children. This is done primarily with revenues from the sales of Zambian crafts, thereby also aiding local artists and nonprofits.
