The Chappaquiddick Summer Music Festival opens its 14th season on Thursday, July 30, with a recital by internationally acclaimed cellist Inbal Segev, accompanied by pianist Noreen Cassidy-Polera.
The program includes the Schumann Fantasy Pieces Op. 73; Hindemith’s, A Frog He Went a-Courting, Variations on an Old-English Nursery Song; Barber’s Sonata Op. 6; Panorama by Ronn Yedidia; and Shostakovich’s Sonata Op. 40. The concert begins at 8 p.m. at the Chappaquiddick Community Center. A reception follows the concert, and everyone is invited to attend.
Inbal Segev is one of the most well-respected young cellists today, heard around the world as a soloist, with chamber ensembles, in recitals and on recordings. Following debuts with the Israel Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic, both under the direction of Zubin Mehta, Ms. Segev has enjoyed an international career, with the Helsinki Philharmonic, Reutlingen Symphony, Dortmund Philharmonic and the Orchestre National de Lyon. She has played with the Bangkok Symphony, and in Japan with the New York Symphonic Ensemble. Ms. Segev has performed with all the major orchestras in Israel, her native country.
Pianist Noreen Cassidy-Polera ranks among the most highly-regarded and diverse chamber artists performing today, and maintains a career that has taken her to every major American music center and abroad to Europe, Russia, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and Seoul. Recent performances include those at Alice Tully Hall, Zankel Hall, Weill Recital Hall, 92nd Street Y, Jordan Hall, Gardener Museum, Kennedy Center, Salle Cortot, and appearances at Caramoor, Bowdoin and Grand Teton festivals.
Ms. Cassidy-Polera’s mastery and specific affection for the complete standard cello-piano repertory is well-known, as is her dedication to the modern edge of this spectrum, particularly to works by American composers.
Tickets are $20, and $18 for seniors, and are available at the door or in advance by calling 508-627-5514. A free shuttle runs from the Chappy Ferry to the community center beginning at 7:30 p.m. and returns after the concert.
