Calling All Island Artists

Founded by Sydna White over half a century ago, the All Island Art Show these days is known for finding new Vineyard artists — and rediscovering the diversity of art work that goes on here. Stroll around the Tabernacle in the Camp Grounds in Oak Bluffs on Monday, August 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and you will be inspired.

Democracy rules. Anyone attending can vote for the coveted audience choice award. And any artist aged 16 years or older with an Island address may enter.

If you’d like to hang something, come between 8:30 and 10 a.m. the day of the show with your work. It’s easy, and fun. Registration forms will also be available earlier at the Field Gallery and Granary Gallery in West Tisbury, the Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown, Mary Etherington Fine Art in Vineyard Haven, Dragonfly in Oak Bluffs, as well as at the Camp Ground Association headquarters.

No more than five pieces, none larger than 30 inches by 40 inches (including frame) and one portfolio with up to 30 pieces. Entry fees range from $5 for one piece to $20 for five and $5 for a portfolio. Prizes range from $25 to $150 for best-in-show.

On Tuesday, the kids take over the wired walls of the Tabernacle for the Junior All Island Art Show. Bring the best work on your fridge; entry is only 50 cents (limit two) but the pint-sized pride of being on show is priceless.
