The Chappaquiddick Summer Music Festival continues on Thursday, August 6, with a performance by the Jupiter String Quartet. The quartet will perform Shostakovich’s Quartet No. 7, Dvorak’s Quartet in F Major “American,” and Beethoven’s Quartet in E Minor, the “Razumovsky.” The concert begins at 8 p.m. at the Chappaquiddick Community Center. A reception follows the concert and everyone is invited to attend.
Formed in 2001, the Jupiter String Quartet is a particularly intimate group, consisting of violinists Nelson Lee and Megan Freivogel, violist Liz Freivogel (older sister of Meg), and cellist Daniel McDonough (husband of Meg, brother in law of Liz). The quartet has received several recent chamber music honors, including first prize in the Banff International String Quartet Competition, grand prize in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competion, membership in Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society Two, and Chamber Music America’s Cleveland Quartet Award, which “honors and promotes a rising young string quartet whose artistry demonstrates that it is in the process of establishing a major career.”
Tickets are $20, $18 for seniors, and are available at the door or in advance by calling 508-627-5514. A free shuttle runs from the Chappy Ferry to the community center beginning at 7:30 p.m. and returns after the concert.
