Saturday, August 1: Rain stops in the wee hour of morning. The air is drier by sunrise. Coffee enthusiasts walk wet downtown Vineyard Haven in the morning with their Beetlebung coffee cups. Temperature reaches the mid-80s. Sunny and perfect sailing weather in the waters off Oak Bluffs. East Chop is idyllic in the late afternoon, warm sun. Hazy skies. Cocktail reception on East Chop. Summer dresses and shortsleeve shirts. Warm. Shifting currents can be seen from East Chop overlook. Increasing clouds late.

Sunday, August 2: Fog in the late afternoon. Drizzle towards evening. Fog arrives from Katama and crosses over Edgartown harbor.

Monday, August 3: Rain overnight. Polar Bear swimmers and supporters gather at Inkwell beach for a swim. Fog covers northeastern side of Nantucket Sound. Sun peaks through a dark fog bank and shines warm and hot after clearing the tip of the clouds. The day becomes hot. Muggy. Temperature reaches the 80s.

Tuesday, August 4: Hot and summer-like. A small kayak armada moves across Sengekontacket Pond. Dog days of July in August. Bathers swim in the afternoon off Oak Bluffs beach. Colorful beach towels decorate the shoreline, while their owners beat the heat and wade in shallow water. Children splash.

Wednesday, August 5: Fog in the morning. Edgartown Great Pond. Sunny in Vineyard Haven. Overcast in Edgartown. Skies darken in the afternoon. Overcast and damp in the evening. A late large full moon, Sailor’s Moon, appears through the fast moving clouds.

Thursday, August 6: Light rain overnight. Drier. The air is drier. Mackerel skies early. A light northeast wind. Brief periods of sunshine. Mostly cloudy mid-day.
