Decisive action by an Edgartown police officer likely saved the life of a toddler over the weekend.

Officer Dayce Moore responded to a call at 7:39 p.m. Saturday that a two-year-old girl had fallen down the stairs at a condominium at Mattakeeset Properties in Katama, and was unconscious.

Officer Moore, who was in his cruiser and not far from police headquarters, arrived on the scene within minutes. He found the girl without a pulse, and immediately began performing CPR until the girl’s father arrived to provide assistance.

And the girl began breathing again.

The girl, who was not identified because of her age, was airlifted to a Boston hospital for further treatment.

Edgartown police Lieut. Tony Bettencourt praised Officer Moore.

“It was outstanding really . . . no question. He is the first to arrive and finds a two-year-old girl lying unconscious without a pulse, and he goes right into CPR like he was trained, which basically helped to save a young life . . . just outstanding,” he said.
