The first-ever Martha’s Vineyard dog parade will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 23 in Ocean Park, to welcome the four-legged member of the First Family, Bo, the Portuguese water dog.
The parade marshal will be the handsome yellow labrador Chappy Homlish, whose family won the honor at the Possible Dreams Auction.
Lisa Vanderhoop, who creates the Vineyard Sea Dogs calendars, will be taking photos at the event, which also will offer kosher, organic treats, fresh Chilmark Spring Water, and gift bags on hand for all marchers donated by the parade’s sponsor, Good Dog Goods.
Kate Feiffer will read and sign copies of her books Which Puppy? (about the Obamas’ search for a dog) and Henry the Dog With No Tail. The real Henry will be in the parade.
Organizers encourage Islanders to send Bo a note from your dog or family, to help him find his way to the Vineyard’s best canine activities and hangouts.
