The Adult and Community Education Program of Martha’s Vineyard (ACE MV) has a new collaboration with the Northeastern University, allowing Vineyarders a much-needed opportunity to earn college credits without leaving the Island.

ACE MV will provide professional development courses for graduate and undergraduate college credit, in addition to its wide-ranging roster of 50 enrichment courses and seminars starting Oct. 5.

The courses to be offered for college credit this fall include: World Religions Today, taught by Janet Holladay, MA, divinity school; Psychology: Embodied Mind, by Peg Thayer, Ph.D.; Irish History, by Elaine Cawley Weintraub, Ph.D.

Credit courses for the winter session include: Brazilian History, taught by Sharilyn Geistfeld, Ph.D. and William Gamson, Ph.D.; Creative Teaching Strategies for World Language and ELL teachers, by Lynn Ditchfield, MA, M.Ed.; Imagination! The Heartbeat of the Intellect: Storytelling and its Uses in the K-12 Curriculum, by Susan Klein, M.Ed.; and Maintaining Professional Enthusiasm, by Margaret Regan, M.Ed.

Meet a representative from Northeastern University and other instructors of the fall courses at a Course Sampling Fair Sept. 22 at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School cafeteria from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Register in person for classes that day or at walk-in registration Sept. 23 at the high school lobby 5:30 to 7 p.m. For all course descriptions and online registration, see the Web site acemv.org.
