All the best to William Durwood Vanderhoop and his bride Jamie Sue Spears Vanderhoop on their traditional wedding day, Saturday, Sept. 19, in a ceremony at the Lighthouse at Aquinnah Circle. Woody is the son of Roxanne Ackerman and the late William Diamond Vanderhoop, Sr.. Jamie Sue is the daughter of Ronald and Joanne Spears of Hope Valley, R.I. Family and friends of Jamie and Woody gathered on Sunday evening at the Totem Pole where a bridal shower was held in their honor, hosted by Theresa Manning and assisted by Wenonah Madison and Grace Reeves.

The Aquinnah Public Library will be moving from the town hall back to the little red schoolhouse across the street within the month. If you have books, videos, CDs or magazines that are due, please call 508-645-2314 to have them renewed. If you have any time to assist with packing the books, please call Jennifer or Michelle.

We may thank Jennifer Christy, Michelle Laurie and Natalie Francis for keeping the library functioning in its temorary home over the last year. Thank you to trustees Nancy Delaney, Betty Joslow and Martha Vanderhoop, as well as the Friends of Aquinnah Public Library for their support through this transition. It allowed us to realize that a larger library space is a necessity for our growing community.

Mrs. Silvia Page Browne, daughter of Clyde and Eloise (Vanderhoop) Page of Newport News, Va., has been the guest of Barry and Grace Reeves while attending the annual powwow.

Elsie Fantasia, daughter of Edward and Fawn, a junior at the high school, is a proud member of the cheerleading squad once again. She was disappointed the first game was lost but looks forward to a great season of football.

Thomas Fantasia, son of Edward and Lorraine Fawn (Vanderhoop) Fantasia, has started his freshman year at the University of Maine at Orono.

Dr. Helen (Wanzer) Mays Jackson, daughter of the late Dorothy Smalley of Aquinnah, returned to Washington, D.C. on Monday after attending the powwow, accompanied by godchild Deborah Nelson. Helen and husband Richard will soon move to Silver Springs, Md.

Susie Klein has extended her memoir writing workshops. Sessions begin Sept. 29 and run through Nov. 17 Tuesdays, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Tisbury Senior Center. For details, call 508-989-9264.

Corinna Majno and her husband Ken Kaufman arrived this past week for a short stay. Copies of her book, How to Quit Anything, are available at the Chilmark Store and Aquinnah Shop.

Welcome back to Aquinnah police officer Ryan Maher. He is still beaming from his close encounter with President Obama and the First Family on their bicycle ride at Lobsterville. Ryan recently graduated from the Worcester Police Academy and is awaiting his return to a position there, but has assisted Aquinnah, Chilmark and West Tisbury police departments throughout the summer.

All the best to Aquinnah police officer James Neville who has accepted a position with the West Tisbury police department. We thank him for his work and we will assuredly see him around.

Condolences to the family and friends and especially to the Oak Bluffs firefighters in the loss of Billy Norton. Bill always kept the Oak Bluffs Firemen’s Civic Association running well. We worked on many projects together: auctions, the Firemen’s Ball, fireworks and more. He was a great mentor to younger generations and will be missed.

Thomas Quann, wife Melissa, and sons Thomas and Jared spent the end of August at the Madison Inn. Tom worked at Hatmarcha Shop for two summers in the early 1990s. It was great to see them after 15 years.

Joanne (Vanderhoop) Robey and her son John have been at their State Road home for the weekend.

Juleann VanBelle’s photography exhibit, Time Stands Still, opens at the Chilmark branch of the Bank of Martha’s Vineyard with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 25. The show will run through Oct. 9.

Taza Vercruysse, son of James Vercruysse and Layne Bazzy, has left for Wooster College as a freshman.

Dawn Widdiss returned to Framingham this past week after spending a week with her mother, Gladys Widdiss, and brothers Donald and Carl.
