Quiet times are here. A few fishermen are still with us, and there are some travellers passing through, but the volume of traffic has clearly dropped off up-Island.

Heather Neill and Pat Lackey of Manchester, Pa., are enjoying a late fall vacation in town. Heather is a popular artist whose paintings are often seen at local galleries.

The good news from Christian Soulagnet is that the family has purchased a home in Marlborough, Conn., and the boys are already in school there and loving it! We are happy for this well-liked Menemsha family who are now starting a new life as mainlanders. Chris will be joining them very soon. Best of luck to all!

And more health news ... the annual flu clinic will be on Nov. 11 from 8 a.m. to noon. Things will be run differently this year so be sure and read the new plan. All those driving to the high school where the shots will be administered must first go either to the Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury or to Waban Park in Oak Bluffs to register for the vaccination. After registering, we then proceed to the high school. Forms for registration are available at your town hall, the council on aging, library or pharmacy. For details, call 508-687-7158. This is the annual flu shot for the more common seasonal flu; shots for the H1N1 flu are in the future.

The big event up-Island this week is the Living Local Harvest Fest in West Tisbury. And, finally, some news of interest maybe only to my dog . . . the murder of crows that make Basin Road their seasonal home are back. We wonder where they spend the summer months, as I don’t think crows migrate . . . far.
