Cranberry Day will be observed on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Tribal members meet at 10 a.m. at the cranberry bogs to harvest the crop which is kept in its natural state. At noon there will be a picnic lunch, story telling and dining around the campfire. The community is invited to attend the potluck dinner at 6 p.m. at the tribal building where there will be dancing, singing and drumming.

Aquinnah Wampanoag author Stephanie Duckworth will be at Plimouth Plantation on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 10 and 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. She will be autographing her book Poneasequa, a story of her growing up on Chappaquiddick. Stephanie is the daughter of the late Marion Harding Duckworth Wallace and Alan Duckworth. She was raised on Chappy at the home of her grandparents, the late Ralph L. and Marion (Devine) Harding.

Congratulations to Ena Thulin and Plamen Duncheva on the birth of their daughter Eleonora Plemenova Duncheva, who was born at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital on Sept. 25, 2009. Eleonora is the granddaughter of Dennis and Sarah Thulin of East Pasture.

Aquinnah artist Roberta Gross will have a display of her latest works and will discuss abstract art on Saturday evening from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Louisa Gould Gallery at 54 Main street in Tisbury. Refreshments will be served. Please try to stop by and enjoy listening to Roberta.

Dr. Don Hare and his wife Nancy have recently been at their Aquinnah family home for a brief visit. Don is still undergoing medical care near their home in Rochester.

Mrs. Betty Joslow has been enjoying a visit from her daughter Nancy this week. Nancy is quite a scrapbook artist as well as card artist whose work is sold on the Vineyard. Nancy will return to her home on Friday and Betty will then look forward to a visit with her daughter Wendy, who will arrive for the weekend.

Chief Ryan Malonson returned home on Friday following a brief stay at New England Baptist Hospital.

Noah James Manning returned home on Sunday evening after spending the weekend with his grandparents William and Joan Kistner in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. While there, they celebrated Bill’s birthday and Noah was able to cheer Joanie in her recuperation from her illness of several months. Noah was accompanied by his parents, Paul and Theresa.

Naomi Scott, daughter of Linda and Frank, spent the weekend at Dartmouth College where she participated in the Fly-In weekend which invites potential students to the college for a campus weekend. On several occasions Naomi has been to Dartmouth, where her brother Matthew is in his junior year. Naomi is presently a senior at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School and is touring colleges for next year. Their brother Sam is a freshman at Nichols College and is enjoying being a member of the golf team.

Joe Spinelli will be at the Martha’s Vineyard Antique Association sale at the Grange Hall in West Tisbury today, next to the new West Tisbury Town Hall. Joe will have an array of his antique jewelry and silverware among other antique treasures for sale. There will also be Vineyard antiques, wicker furniture and nautical items for sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mrs. Rose Styron will be reading excerpts from Letters to My Father by her late husband William Styron at the Bunch of Grapes Bookstore this evening at 7:30 p.m.

Julianne Vanderhoop Mahoney is still hosting her popular pizza nights at Orange Peel Bakery on Wednesday evenings. As long as the weather holds out, she will continue with the popular gatherings.

Jesse Wiener and his bride, Maggie, have returned from their honeymoon in Jamaica. They are presently moving into their new apartment in Manhattan with a view of the George Washington Bridge and the Hudson River.

There will be a public hearing at the Aquinnah Town Hall on Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. regarding bylaw changes that would create an extensive regulation framework for wind energy sources. Your input is important in these decisions.

This will be a weekend of many closings for the season. Spend your weekend out and about and enjoying visits with your family and friends as the long summer season and early autumn brings many changes around the Vineyard. Jane Slater will be closing her Over South Antique Shop in Menemsha. Scott Mullin will be closing the Sidecar Cafe on Saturday. The Chilmark Store will be closing for the season, as will Larsen’s Fish Market, the Galley and the Menemsha Store — all up-Island places that we depend upon during the season. The Chilmark Tavern will be closing on the 17th. Chilmark Chocolates will reopen on the 20th. The VTA bus schedule will change significantly for the season, so please obtain a new bus schedule to be informed of the routes.

Happy 17th anniversary wishes to Dan and Cheryl Maltais as they celebrate their special day on Oct. 10.

Happy 12th anniversary wishes to Paul and Genie O’Donnell, who were married on Chappy on Oct. 11, 1997. During their Aquinnah summers, they are assistant lighthouse keepers at the lighthouse at Aquinnah Circle. Genie also enjoys her artwork at Featherstone Arts.

Happy 17th anniversary wishes to Spencer and Belinda Booker as they celebrate their special day on Oct. 11.

Happy fifth anniversary wishes to Shaun MacPhail and Alexandra Taylor as they celebrate their special day on Oct. 16.

Happy birthday wishes this week to Noah’s aunt Debbie Kistner as she celebrates today. Dr. Norma Zack will observe her special day on Oct. 11. Zachary Smalley will be 15 years old on Oct. 11. Mrs. Yvette Eastman will observe her 97th birthday on Oct. 12. Anthony Belain will party on the 13th. Brenda Duart will observe her special day on Oct. 14 so stop by and wish her a happy one.

Derrill Bazzy will observe his very special day on Oct. 14. Forrest Alley will observe his special day on Oct. 15 and in his retirement days already has his Christmas lights up and running.
