Run the Race, Support the Cause

Lace up the running shoes — even if you’re walking — it’s almost time for the Oak Bluffs Columbus Day 5K Road Race. The race gives runners and walkers a healthy fall activity (and, for a few, first-place trophies), plus the opportunity to help families find a safe, decent affordable home they can call their own on Martha’s Vineyard — race proceeds benefit the Island Affordable Housing Fund.

This annual event will begin Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Wesley Hotel. The race will include a 5K run and a one-mile fun run, plus a 5K walk so that all may be involved. Registration forms are available at the Oak Bluffs town hall and library, or you can register and check in on Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. (preregistration is $15) at the Wesley Hotel, and on Sunday (race day) from 9 to 10 a.m. (day of race $20) at the Wesley Hotel. The race begins at 11 a.m. Preregistration is encouraged on Saturday to guarantee a limited edition 20th Annual Oak Bluffs Columbus Day Road Race T-shirt.
